Donjon Doxy plays energetic and catchy indie rock which often ventures into noisy punk and hardcore-influenced blowouts. Drummer Øystein Monsen is also a part of the euphoric noise rock band Izakaya Heartbeat, and some of this band’s hypnotic groove and noisy elements can be heard in Donjon Doxy as well. Some say it sounds like Modest Mouse on speed, others as a mixture of Blonde Redhead, Talking Heads and Blood Brothers. When the sources of inspiration are of such a variety it goes without saying that the music is full of contrasts, and the band knows how to use this to craft songs rich in dynamics.
Dark, dramatic and melancholic rock songs with pop catchiness, beautiful shoegaze guitars and angelic vocals, aggressive, noisy segments and screaming, barking and distorted electronics are all ingredients in Donjon Doxy’s music.
Other important influences are Pixies and My Bloody Valentine.
The band has played lots of shows in Oslo, has been recommended by “NRK Urørt”, the website Uhort.no picked them out as “Artist of the week” and the music video for the song "Builder" has had rotation on Norway’s national television, NRK.
They are now back after a concert break where they focused on their debut EP "How deep is the sea", which was recorded in the studio of Norway’s Harry's Gym and mixed by Bjarne Stensli from the same band. The EP will be released soon and the band is looking forward to share new material with the audience!
"The band plays a kind of un-Norwegian and intense blend of indie and post rock. At the same time they focus on catchy melodies, and it is fascinating to hear a band that is so immediately catchy and weird at the same time."
